What to have ready

Your income

Your income statement is usually pre-filled from the ATO, we'll check it's complete, including any allowances.

Your deductions

Receipts, a logbook if you claim car use, and rough work-versus-private splits for phone and home office.

The extras

Private health statement, spouse details, and any investment, rental or share information.

Last year

If you're switching to us, last year's return helps us pick up anything carried forward.

Common questions

You can use the ATO fixed-rate method (a set rate per hour worked from home, covering electricity, internet, phone and stationery) or the actual-cost method. Either way you need a record of hours, a diary for a representative period usually does it. We'll pick whichever method gets you the better result.

Yes, for the work-related portion. If it cost more than $300 you claim the decline in value (depreciation) over its effective life rather than the whole cost up front. Keep the receipt and a rough note of your work-versus-private split.
